A native of Denver, Colorado, Keeler studied at the University of Colorado and the Chicago Art Institute (1928-1931). Following his studies in Chicago, he moved to Denver where he worked for the Denver Art Museum and as a freelance lithographer. In the 1940s, Keeler relocated to Seattle, Washington where he worked as an artist/lithographer for Boeing.
