About the Artist
William H.M. Cox was a portrait and landscape painter. He painted portraits of well-known Colorado pioneers and probably the first Colorado Springs portrait painter. Cox moved to Texas in 1886 and worked in Virginia in the late nineteenth century. Today, his portraits of Fitzhugh Lee and Philip W. McKinney are in the Virginia State Capitol.
